Listening to Your Heart’s Wisdom

Have you ever noticed how your heart seems to “know” something before your mind can explain it? That quiet sense of knowing, that gentle nudge, that deep feeling of truth — that’s your heart’s wisdom.

In yoga and mindfulness, we learn that intelligence doesn’t live only in the mind. In fact, modern science has discovered that we have three “brains” — the head, the heart, and the gut — each with its own complex network of neurons, capable of memory, intuition, and decision-making.

Our head brain is logical and analytical. It helps us plan, organise, and make sense of the world.
Our gut brain is instinctive and primal, guiding us through feelings of safety, trust, and courage.
And our heart brain — the one most easily drowned out in our busy, overthinking world — is where our deepest wisdom lives. It’s where compassion, empathy, love, and connection flow from.

When we learn to listen to the heart, something extraordinary happens. Life becomes softer, yet more powerful. Decisions come with greater ease. We start to live in alignment with who we truly are — not from fear or logic alone, but from truth, intuition, and love.

How Yoga Helps Us Connect with the Heart

Yoga offers a pathway to quiet the noise of the mind and tune into the rhythm of the heart. Through breath, movement, and mindfulness, we create the space to feel rather than think.

  • Heart-opening postures (like camel, bridge, or fish) invite us to physically open the chest and energetically open the heart space. (I have included these poses in a just-recorded yoga class now available on the membership platform.)
  • Breathwork (pranayama) connects the physical and emotional bodies — calming the nervous system and helping us feel safe enough to listen within. (In this class, we connect the breath with the heart beat and breathe into the space in and around the heart.)
  • Meditation and mindfulness anchor us in presence, allowing us to recognise the subtle whispers of the heart before the mind rushes in to analyse or doubt.

Even the simplest act of placing a hand on your heart and breathing deeply can bring you back to centre. With practice, this connection becomes your compass — guiding your choices, your relationships, and your path forward.

Life When You’re Living from the Heart

When we’re connected to our heart’s wisdom, life feels more authentic. We become less reactive and more responsive. We trust ourselves more deeply. Gratitude flows easily, and our relationships become more genuine because we’re relating from love rather than fear or self-protection.

Living from the heart doesn’t mean life is always easy — but it does mean we move through challenges with grace. We can feel sadness or uncertainty while still staying rooted in compassion, clarity, and truth.

A Simple Practice

Try this short practice to begin connecting with your heart’s wisdom:

  1. Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
  2. Place your hand over your heart.
  3. Take a few slow, steady breaths, softening your shoulders and jaw.
  4. Silently ask, “What does my heart want me to know right now?”
  5. Then simply listen — not with your mind, but with your whole being.

No effort. No forcing. Just space to feel.

Over time, you’ll begin to notice how this inner guidance shows up in your daily life — through a sense of peace, a knowing, or even a physical feeling of warmth or expansion in your chest.

Your heart is always speaking. Yoga and mindfulness simply help you remember how to listen.
