Yoga is more than movement—it’s a journey inward, a chance to meet ourselves (and life) with openness, acceptance, courage, and presence. Recently, I’ve been reflecting on the words of the Serenity Prayer: “Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” On the mat, these words become a living practice, guiding each breath, each stretch, each pause.
In Camel Pose (ustrasana), we lift our chests and soften our hearts, stepping into vulnerability with gentle courage. Here, opening feels both tender and powerful, a reminder that strength and softness can coexist.
Dancer’s Pose (natarajasana) invites us to find balance, reach forward, and let go simultaneously. It’s playful, graceful, and liberating—a chance to explore trust in ourselves and in life, to open our hearts and discover lightness and joy even as we stretch and challenge our edges.
As we connect to the heart and our truth we are reminded to love ourselves unconditionally.
Through these poses, yoga becomes a reflection of the Serenity Prayer itself. Each inhale whispers serenity. Each pose calls forth courage. Each mindful moment brings clarity and wisdom, helping us discern what we can change, what we can release, and where we can simply be.
I’ve just recorded a half-hour Mindful Flow class exploring this theme, now available for Gold Class Members on the 42yoga.com.au platform. In this gentle, heart-centred practice, you’ll move with awareness, open into Camel and Dancer’s Pose, and let the Serenity Prayer guide your body, your breath, and your heart.
Love and light,
Suze
